Foodbank
Thursdays: 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm.
WE ARE CURRENTLY PROVIDING FOOD FOR MORE THAN 300 HOUSEHOLDS EACH WEEK AND
UNFORTUNATELY ARE NOT ABLE TO HANDLE NEW CLIENTS RIGHT NOW.
IF YOU HAVE BEEN TO OUR FOOD BANK BEFORE YOU ARE WELCOME TO COME, BUT IF
YOU HAVEN'T, PLEASE FIND ANOTHER FOOD BANK. We serve northern Etobicoke and
western North York, and there are several food banks in our area.
Please
call
the Daily Bread Food Bank at 416-203-0050, or else call 211 or go
to www.211central.ca,
to find the location and times of another food bank.
We open the doors about 20 minutes before each of the 2 pm and 6 pm starting times.
We assign arrival numbers in random order as people enter the building. Then,
beginning at the starting times we start giving out food to people in the order
of their assigned numbers. People arriving after opening time are assigned numbers
in numerical order, starting one higher than the numbers given out so far.
In this way everyone present at or before the starting times has the same chance
and people arriving after the starting times are first come first served.
We do this to discourage people from coming extremely early and lining up. Before
we started using the random order, people were coming hours early to get a good place
in line and there were heated disputes with people trying to save spots in line
for others or trying to reserve their own place by leaving their bags. We feel our
present method is fairer to everyone.
If you come an hour or more after opening time there are often no lineups or
waiting required. However, please try to come at least 15 minutes before our
closing times.
With the Daily Bread Food Bank organization we record, with your permission,
the name and birth date of each member of your household, along with your address, housing status, employment
status and other statistical details. This information is kept confidential, and is used by our food bank
and the Daily Bread Food Bank to better understand our clients' circumstances, and to advocate on their behalf.
Everyone working at our food bank is a volunteer. We need more volunteers.
If you have any further questions about our food bank or to help volunteer, please call:
